Blancpain is one of the oldest deluxe watch manufacturers. The brand’s history started in 1735 when a young watchmaker Jean-Jacques Blancpain founded a small workshop in his own house in Villers. Jean-Jacques’s successors continued his business. His grand-grandson Frederic-Louis Blancpain expanded the production. He replaced the balance wheel with cylindrical starter.
Blancpain has been rapidly developing and by the middle of the XX century became one of the most recognizable brands in town. By the end of the 50s Blancpain produced more than 100 000 watches. At the peak of cheap quartz watch popularity Blancpain Company stayed loyal to its traditions and continued producing watches with complicated mechanism. The brand produced the first automatic woman watch in the world. The model was called Rolls. Ladybird model by Blancpain was the watch with the smallest mechanism in round watch at the time.
In 1953 Blancpain designed Fifty Fathoms watch for professional divers, and eventually this accessory has become the part of French military watermen uniform. Blancpain designs and produces a large number of components, even the smallest mechanism is manually fitted and the piece is hand-decorated by the master. The collection models include Moon phase calendar, date and time indicators, double-time-zone, alarm clock, tourbillon, carrousel, different types of chronographs, jumping hour function, retrograde minute and second function, depth gauge, and minute repeater. Blancpain virtuoso craftsmanship is in the skill to include more functions to already complicated pieces at a time.
