Baobab Collection: Fragrance as Part of the Interior

Baobab Collection: Fragrance as Part of the Interior

The Italdizain brand portfolio has expanded to include Baobab Collection, a Belgian brand of scented candles, diffusers, and body care products. The brand's products are available at the Yves Delorme boutique in Azerbaijan.

The story of Baobab Collection began in 2002. The brand's creators drew inspiration from Tanzania, with its natural landscapes, culture, and special atmosphere. The brand derives its name from the baobab tree, one of the key symbols of the African savanna. Many African cultures consider this tree sacred and see it as a sign of strength and longevity.

While African motifs are reflected in the fragrances, colors, and designs of the collections, all products are made in Europe using traditional artisanal techniques. This approach is the base of the distinctive Baobab Collection style, where the fragrance and the design of the object become one.

The brand's candles are handmade. They use mineral wax from Germany, glass supplied from Poland, leather from Italy, and fragrance compositions from Grasse, a city with a long history of perfume making. Wicks made from Egyptian cotton are produced in Belgium and Germany.

The glass vessels are mouth-blown by Polish masters. As a result, each piece vary slightly in shade, pattern, or texture. Ceramic vessels are made in Portugal. The products are adorned using silk-screen printing, metallization, dye-sublimation, raffia weaving, and precious metal detailing.

Baobab Collection offers candles and diffusers in five sizes. One of the most recognisable sizes is Max 35 boasting a burn time of up to 800 hours. Such a centerpiece transforms into a striking element of the interior and can be used as a standalone objet d'art.

The themes of the main collections are related to travel, African landscapes, natural materials, precious stones, and metals. The Les Exclusives series is defined by a combination of gold, copper, and platinum tones. In the Stones collection, color is incorporated into the glass as it is blown. This creates a surface patternreminiscent of marble, agate, or lapis lazuli.

Every year, the brand releases limited-edition collections. One of them is dedicated to the Belgian music festival Tomorrowland. The collection features Art Nouveau-inspired botanical motifs applied to the glass using silk-screen printing.

The travel theme continues in the My First Baobab collection. It includes small-format candles and diffusers dedicated to Paris, Manhattan, Brussels, Miami, Saint-Tropez, and other cities. The fragrances are inspired by impressions of particular places, personal memories, and the stories of the brand’s creators. The glass vessels are adorned with graphic patterns and 24-karat gold or platinum detailing.

A separate brand line, Body Wellness, brings familiar fragrances into everyday self-care rituals. The line includes shower gel, liquid and solid soaps, body and hand lotion, and hand cream. The formulas were developed in collaboration with a French laboratory and contain active ingredients derived from baobab fruit. They help maintain the skin’s hydration and its natural lipid balance.

The baobab fruit raw material is sourced from Burkina Faso through a fair-trade system. All fragrance compositions in the line are vegan.

The craftsmanship of artisans plays an important role in Baobab Collection’s work. Sketches for decorating the vessels are inspired by natural landscapes, architecture, and travel memories. These motifs become the foundation of the collections’ visual identity.

Some collections feature metallisation. A special coating is applied to the surface of the glass, after which the piece undergoes high-temperature firing. This creates a distinctive mirror effect.

The raffia decorative elements used for a number of collections are made by a women’s cooperative in Madagascar. The artisans work from sketches created by the brand’s creative team and execute each pattern by hand. The project helps preserve local craft traditions while providing women with a stable source of income.

Today, Baobab Collection is represented at more than 500 points of sale worldwide, including its flagship boutique in Brussels, international department stores, and interior design spaces. The introduction of the brand into Italdizain’s portfolio expands the selection of home objects where fragrance, form, and material harmoniously converge to define the ambiance of any living space.
