Freedom and Aesthetics of Equestrianism in Haviland’s New Cavalier Royal Collection.
Cavalier Royal is a new collection by the legendary Limoges porcelain manufacturer – Haviland. The designers of the manufactory, founded back in 1842, have repeatedly drawn inspiration from the centuries-old historical ties between applied arts and equestrianism. This time, they were captivated by the nobility and natural grace of purebred Andalusian horses, as well as the artistic heritage of one of Spain’s most picturesque cities – Seville.
The Haviland artisans invite you to enjoy the contrast between the unpredictable expressive energy of these magnificent animals and the flawless geometry of architectural forms, created centuries ago by Moorish and Spanish architects.
The background decoration and ornamental borders of plates, saucers, cups, and other pieces from the Cavalier Royal collection form a symmetric arabesque, arranged in a harmonious rhythm of burgundy, brown, beige, and gold elements. The pattern is applied using the chromolithography technique with hand-applied gilding. The stylized arches add dynamism to the design.
The central element of the collection’s design is the eight-pointed star, characteristic of Sevillian architecture, with alternating sharp and rounded rays. Within this star – like a cartouche frame – is an image of a prancing Andalusian horse adorned with a richly gold-embellished red caparison with tassels, a steed truly fit for royalty. This motif is echoed in a monochrome relief on the teapot, a contrasting black silhouette of a horse on the creamer-sauce boat and the bottoms of the cups, and a golden design on a vase from the Cavalier Royal collection.
A narrow gold border, framing the edges of plates, salad bowls, serving bowls, and the sugar bowl, resembles a woven ribbon, featuring the same prancing horse motif.
The collection includes a variety of tableware pieces, from a large presentation platter and a spacious salad bowl to small bowls, dessert plates, and bread plates. The coffee and tea line comprises a teapot, creamer-sauce boat, and cups of various sizes, all featuring a sleek, cylindrical shape with matching saucers, as well as an elegant cake stand for serving pastries or cakes.
The thoughtful design and impeccable craftsmanship of Haviland’s traditional French porcelain, backed by nearly two centuries of expertise, will undoubtedly attract the attention of restaurant professionals, interior designers, collectors, and anyone who values functional and aesthetic pieces of timeless classic design with heritage.
