The power of Nature and Earth's hidden treasures in the Lalique TERRAMINERAL Collection.

Nature remains an enduring source of inspiration for Lalique. In the new TERRAMINERAL collection, the brand’s designers present their own interpretation of the powerful forces of nature: the eruption of magma from a volcano’s core and the irreversible transformation of the landscape as lava solidifies. This process is reminiscent of crystal-making, where molten glass takes the shape conceived by the glassblower—the moment when nature becomes art.

In creating TERRAMINERAL, Lalique's artisans employed complex craftsmanship techniques that have been perfected since the manufacture’s founding in 1888. They successfully captured in crystal the swiftness with which nature can reshape the Earth’s surface and the impact of time on its further transformation. The designers were inspired by the immense power hidden within the Earth’s depths and the fluidity that allows natural forces to effortlessly alter the planet's appearance, transform rock textures, and create true treasures—mineral crystals. To reflect the dynamics of volcanic activity in crystal and mimic the cracks and fractures of the Earth's crust, Lalique plays with contrasting textures—matte and transparent—while incorporating bold, relief-like forms. The names of the pieces—Caldera and Magnitude—also reference the terminology of tectonic processes: a caldera is a circular basin at the summit of a volcano, while magnitude measures the energy released during an earthquake in the form of seismic waves. In addition to Clear crystal, the designers have introduced two distinct color variations for vases, decorative bowls, and decanters in the new collection: Canyon Crystal reflects the ochre tones of sedimentary rock, while Persepolis Blue captures the pale azure hue of rare and precious Persian turquoise—another gift from deep within the Earth. The shapes of the crystal pieces and the optical effects created by the interplay of transparency and density symbolize movement—the compression and fracturing of solid rock as magma erupts from the Earth’s depths. Magnitude vases evoke the shifting of tectonic plates, where smooth surfaces are ‘broken’ by sharp geometric fractures. The forms of Caldera bowls and decanters draw inspiration from the immense volcanic calderas crowning the summits of volcanoes. The TERRAMINERAL jewelry line, consisting of six pieces—rings, earrings, and pendants—translates the natural shapes of crystal clusters into exquisite designs. The crystal elements, set in metal, resemble stylized mineral formations, with enamel and colored glass used to recreate natural inclusions. To enhance the volume and layered structure of the clusters, Lalique designers once again play with the contrasts of matte and polished surfaces.
